Temples

On Thursday 26 October we visited three temples in Shau Kei Wan: Tin Hau, Shing Won, and Tam Kung [map]. After lots of back and forth between the School, the Chinese Temples Association and us, we were finally allowed to visit and make 360 video and Ambisonics recordings of the indoor environment. We were not allowed to take air samples (for chemical analysis of potential smell compounds). We hope to be able to do such the next time, because these temples are truly multimodal in their complex arrangement of elements, such as architecture, objects (e.g. sculpture, furniture, tools), visuals (e.g. paintings, posters), sounds (e.g. drums, bells, prayers), and olfactory(e.g. fruits and incense), which people interact with, and between themselves. We will continue next week visiting temples in Sham Shui Po area, and wetmarkets. Below are some snapshots.
